12 o'clock blessing

this is where i count my blessings. it doesn't have to be a million dollar blessing. i just want to list down the blessings i receive everyday. this is a way for me to show myself how i am truly blessed.

surviving on food from nowhere:mushroom and cornedbeef

we rummaged again our food cabinet and found the following:
1 90 gram can of corned beef
canned straw mushrooms

in our ref we found the following:
a leftover half onion
half clove of garlic
a week old pork adobo (i'll share adobo recipes soon!)
used oil from past 'fry-days'

chop the onions and garlic. chop the pork from the adobo. drain the mushrooms and set aside the water from the mushrooms.

fry the garlic in the used oil till golden brown. add the onions and saute.
add the chopped adobo pork pieces together with its old adobo sauce.
add the corned beef and simmer for about 5 minutes.
add the drained mushrooms.

if you want it a bit saucy, add the water from the mushrooms. add salt and pepper to taste.

this is really good. my hunny said that this is a jurassic food but full of flavor! i served this with rice together with the leftover sotanghon soup on my previous blog.

surviving on food from nowhere:sotanghon soup

we're now eating lean. trying to make good food out of stocks left in the cabinet. last night we had nice hot vermicelli soup.

Ingredients
1 small canned sardines in red tomato sauce found deep inside our food cabinet
1 small vermicelli dried noodles in a single serve pack
1/2 an onion found hidden in the vegetable crisper
used oil probably came after frying dried squid
3 fresh eggs donated by my good brother in law
somewhat ok small cabbage. old and darkened outer leaves pulled out.

Slice the onions. Saute it using the used oil.
Add the found sardines. Add ample water for you to have good soup.
Add the vermicelli and simmer it till soft.
put the cleaned eggs with shell in the soup. make sure it's very clean.
Add the sliced recovered cabbage.
Boil till the eggs are hard boiled, the noodles are soft, and the cabbage is good...about 10 minutes.
remove the eggs with shell. wash the eggs in running water. peel the shell. throw back the eggs into the soup. Season with salt and pepper. Serve very hot!

We again survived one day through the little blessings scattered in our humble kitchen.

power dressing

I will be wearing all barongs for the whole week!

My hunny ironed them well last saturday.

Barongs are worn on formal occassions and in business organizations here. Designs vary. Barongs on formal occassions vary from barongs from business environments.

Barongs are the national wear for Filipinos. This unique attire originated from China and was adopted here.

Barongs are statements of power dressing here in manila.

kaya resto

we had dinner last night at kaya restaurant.

this is a cozy korean restaurant that offers good korean flavors served in no time.

although the restaurant only prepares easy and simple korean food, the flavors they use are very good.

they have a bigger branch on the other side of makati that offers a more complete line of korean delicacies.

price is very reasonable. we plan on dining on their bigger branch soon!

simply congee

we had a nice and simple congee last night.

this dish is called here as arroz caldo. aka: congee, rice porridge, lelot manok, or lugaw.

we had a reserved chicken broth when we boiled chicken for a nice chicken sandwich.

used the broth to boil the sticky rice or the malagkit.

the congee was sauteed on garlic, onions and fresh ginger.

the sticky rice is then sauteed too for a couple of minutes then added the broth.

boil the rice till soft and fluffy. add water if needed till it reaches your desired consistency. we made ours a bit thick. but we will dilute it some more with soup stock for dinner tonight.
